Abstract
This session will discuss applied soil management options including tillage, cover crops and grazing cover crops or annual forages to improve soil health with examples from production fields across Kansas. Participants will have the opportunity to test aggregate stability of soil samples collected from different management practices using the slake test.

Dr. Obour is a Soil Scientist and Professor with Kansas State University, PhD University of Florida. His applied research program is focus on developing a systematic understanding of soil management and agronomic production practices within dryland cropping systems and the impact of such practices on soil health, water use, crop productivity, and economic returns.

The presentation will explore the diverse applications of drones in precision agriculture, including field scouting for crop health assessment, monitoring crop growth stages, managing soil nutrients, different stresses, and predicting yields. In addition to these analytical uses, the talk will also highlight the practical and operational aspects of drone technology, such as aerial spraying and seeding.

Dr. Joshi is an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Precision Agriculture in the Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University, PhD South Dakota State University. His extension and applied research focus on precision agriculture and on-farm decision-making, leveraging a variety of sensor-based technologies, including drones, satellites, ground sensors, and open-access datasets.

Abstract
The focus of this 2-part 100 min session is on the basics of weed plant identification. Participants will learn about key plant parts for identification, features of grass and broadleaf weed seedlings, traits of families of weed species, and use of botanical keys for identification. Participants will receive 50 minutes of instruction, then spend 30 minutes on practicing identification skills on seedling plants, and 20 minutes reviewing the key features of the seedlings.

Dr. Dille, Professor, Weed Ecology, Department of Agronomy, Kansas State University. Anita Dille has been teaching weed identification in her undergraduate “Weed Science” course and has co-taught this session for 10 years.
Dr Cott is an Assistant Professor of Crop Science in the Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University. Dr. Cott earned her B.S. degree from Missouri State University and her Ph.D. from Kansas State University. Her primary activities include teaching the Crop Science and Plant/Seed Identification courses, coaching the Crops Team, and developing a Crop Ecology research program.

Glufosinate (Liberty, others) has become a key herbicide for postemergence weed control in soybeans and cotton. This presentation will include data-based discussions as well as demonstrations of some key factors influencing the efficacy of glufosinate applications including nozzle selection, application volume, weed density and environmental conditions.
