25 May KARA Contacts Congresswoman Sharice Davids Calling for Bipartisan Support for Federal Legislation Reaffirming FIFRA
Kansas Agribusiness Retailers Association, along with other Kansas-based agricultural organizations, sent a letter to Congresswoman Sharice Davids (D-3rd District) requesting she serve as a sponsor to legislation being circulated by Congressman Dusty Johnson (R-South Dakota) related to labeling and packaging under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
The request cited concerns with recent efforts from some non-Kansas state governments to impose labels directly contradicting federal regulatory findings by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Those efforts risk creating an inconsistent patchwork of state and local labels that could disrupt interstate commerce and grower access to vital crop protection tools.
The legislation, as introduced, would prevent inconsistent state and local laws, while relying on a scientifically proven FIFRA process to approve and label pesticides.
